Text Box: 11 Money and Fuel Saving Tips

1.) Change fluids from conventional oil to synthetic oil in all locations on the vehicle. Such as, engine oil, transmission oil, transfer case, gear oil, power steering pump, ect.

2.) Not all synthetics are created equal. One stands alone in performance and is verified by independent analysis to beat all synthetic competitors in great numbers.

3.) Fact: For engines, clean oil lubricates better than dirty oil.

4.) Make sure your air filters stay clean. Low restriction air flow can increase fuel economy. Be cautious if considering using the oil wetted fabric filter system. ( Specially, for people living in the desert southwest.)

5.) A new intake system will also help increase your MPG. The caution is that not all intake systems are created equal. When choosing intake components, in conjunction with exhaust components, you need to choose systems that compliment one another

6.) Installing a free flowing exhaust can help. Again, not all exhausts are created equal, some do more harm than good.

7.) Most tuners are designed with for power so be sure to choose one designed with fuel economy in mind. Again, the caution is not all tuners are created equal-some cause more harm than good. Products will be available 11-08-08.

8.) Replace engine driven fans with electric fans.

9.) Fact: Propane injection will add mileage and power.

10.) Check air pressure frequently to make sure it meets manufacturer specifications; better yet fill with nitrogen because nitrogen is more stable than air and does not contract or expand as much as air. Because it has larger molecules it cannot pass through the tire wall as quickly therefore it stays in the tire longer providing a longer more stable pressure fill. You don't’ have to check your tire pressure as often with nitrogen.

11.) For full size truck user, resist the urge to use lift kits and large tires. Lift kits over four inches cause a increase in wind resistance. Large tires over 33 inches in diameter cause a noticeable increase in rolling resistance.

Benefits of Synthetics

Since 1000 AD, world population has tripled, while fossil fuel use has grown tenfold.

In 1989, almost 60% of the nation's automotive oil was changed by consumers themselves.

Americans throw away enough used motor oil every year to fill 120 supertankers.

Used oil from a single oil change (approx. one gallon) can ruin a million gallons of fresh water - a year's supply for 50 people.

Used oil is insoluble, persistent, slow to degrade, sticks to everything from beach sand to bird feathers, and can contain toxic chemicals and heavy metals that pose a health threat to humans, plants, and animals.

An estimated 200 million gallons of used motor oil is improperly disposed of each year in the U.S. by being dumped on the ground, tossed in the trash (ending up in landfills), and poured down storm sewers and drains.

Recycling used oil would save the U.S. 1.3 million barrels of oil per day.

The world's largest waste oil processing plant is located in East Chicago, Indiana. The facility is to recycle 75 million gallons per year of crankcase and industrial oil and 20 million gallons per year of oily wastewater.

One gallon of used oil provides the same 2.5 quarts of high quality lubricating oil as 42 gallons of crude oil.
